The Basics

Welcome to Monterey Church of Christ in Lubbock, Texas! It is always a pleasure to meet newcomers and to share with you the wonderful things God is doing in Lubbock. For over fifty years now, our congregation has sought to develop fully devoted followers of Jesus who make a difference by being a visible presence in our community and our world.

Come to one of our worship services and stop by the guest information booth in the Great Hall to get acquanted with our church and learn more.

Services

We gather together every Sunday morning and Wednesday evening to renew our hearts and minds on the truth of God’s word and the grace we have through Jesus. We proclaim God’s love collectively, we submit ourselves to Him, and we seek to be transformed by Him. We worship together, through music, teaching, prayer, and the partaking in communion.

When are services?

Sunday services are at 8:30am (non-instrumental) and 10:45am (instrumental).  Mid-week Wednesday classes are at 7:00pm for all ages.

What should I expect / What do I wear?

Sunday morning services last about an hour. There, you will find people dressed in everything from suits and dresses to jeans. In other words, people wear what they are comfortable attending church in. In our early service, you will find the music to be a cappella or without instruments. In our second service, we incorporate instruments into the music of our worship. You will find teaching, prayer and communion take place at each service in an effort to make Jesus the center of all we do.

What about kids?

We believe that a parent’s duty is to be the primary spiritual leader of their children and so we strive to support them however we can. Parents are free to bring their children into the worship service or bring them to Childrens’ Worship – a safe, fun, bible-centered environment for children on Sunday mornings.

Is there something for youth on Sundays?

Between each worship service, we have bible classes for all ages. We intentionally do not seperate our teens from the congregational worship assembly because we believe that particiapation in congregational worship is an essential part of spiritual formation.

Do you have classes for adults?

Yes, our classes are organized according to life events. For instance, we have a class of parents of newborns and preschoolers. Classes of parents of college-aged and adult children. A class for singles. Classes of retirees. etc. Some of our classes are large enough in size that they could be a good-sized congregation on their own. Some of our classes are so small, their members can meet for coffee in their homes. Our classes play an integral part in integrating people into the life of the church.

Do you have a small group program where I can get to know people more intimately?

Yes, our small group program, called Life Groups, meet on a regular basis throughout the community, often in people’s homes. In addition to our Life Groups, we have a women’s group called WOW or Women Of Worship and our men meet once a week for donuts and coffee and a bible study.
