Barry Stephens / Senior Minister
Barry has served as Senior Minister at Monterey since April 2000. He also serves as an Adjunct Professor of Preaching and Ministry at Lubbock Christian University. He and Debbie have been married since 1974, and have three children and four grandchildren. He works closely with our elders and staff to provide overall vision and leadership for the church, but his grandchildren top his priority list.
Eric Opton / Youth Minister
Eric has led and coordinated Monterey’s youth ministry since 1991. He loves coaching, a good Einstein’s Bagel, and sneaking up on people. Most of all, he loves God’s heart for young people. Eric and Laura have two boys, Ryan and Masen.
Christi Sanders / Children's Minister
Christi joined the Children's Ministry team in 2010. You’ll probably find her spending time with her family around the house or at a baseball game. Christi believes Children’s Ministry exists to share the most powerful message with the most receptive hearts.
Shauna Young / Children's Minister
Shauna has served as Children’s Minister at Monterey since 1999. Her husband, Doug, and their three boys keep her surrounded by testosterone. She loves it, but if you’re considering a gift for Shauna you might think spa packages and earplugs.
Sam Souder / Worship Minister
Sam moved to Lubbock and started serving at the Monterey church in 2014. He graduated from Abilene Christian University in 2010 and is currently pursuing his master’s degree in Worship Leadership from Dallas Baptist University. He and his beautiful wife/better half Tara love Lubbock and being surrounded by friends and family.
Aaron Dawson / Missional Life Minister
Aaron became our Missional Life Minister in 2015, but has been on staff at Monterey since 2003 serving our youth ministry. He and his wife Deanna have three children, Emie, Will, and Joy, and usually several foster kids. Aaron graduated from Lubbock Christian University in 2004 with a B.A. in Youth and Family Ministry and received his M.Div. from Abilene Christian University in 2008.
Joey Drumright / Congregational Life Minister
Joey became our Congregational Life Minister in 2015, but has been on staff at Monterey since 2005 serving our college, singles, and young professionals. Joey and Erin have three children Zoe, Sophie, and Malcolm. Although he hails from Nashville, TN his children are full-blooded Texans. Joey loves a good hat, catching new movies, and chai tea lattes.

Jim Beck / Missions Coordinator
Jim promotes, organizes, and facilitates holistic missions practices, at home and abroad. You’ll see Jim and Phyllis stateside several months out of the year, but their primary home is in Malindi, Kenya. Jim also founded Carpenter’s Church, a community for the homeless and abandoned in downtown Lubbock.
